Do Nurme soaps contain lye?
Nurme soaps contain lye, also known as sodium hydroxide, but it is not listed in the ingredient list because it is a processing aid that helps the mixture saponify and should not remain in the finished product.
Are Nurme shampoos suitable for untreated and/or curly hair?
All Nurme shampoos have clean formulas and do not contain silicones, parabens, or synthetic fragrances and colourants. This makes them ideal for untreated and/or curly hair. If needed, we recommend using Nurme hair conditioners. Nurme shampoos and conditioners are also suitable for children. Because the shampoos and conditioners contain essential oils, for babies we recommend the fragrance-free baby shampoo developed especially for babies.
How do I wash my hair with a solid shampoo?
When washing with any solid shampoo, remember that creating a rich lather is very important. The lather washes soap residue out of the hair so it does not feel greasy after washing. We recommend washing your hair twice.
Wet your hair, rub the solid shampoo between your hands to create foam, and apply it to the hair. Then rinse and repeat. During the second wash, a richer lather should form and the hair will become clean. Use conditioner if desired.
Are Nurme essential oils water-soluble?
Natural essential oils do not dissolve in water; because they are light, they remain on the surface. However, they mix well with alcohol.
How should essential oils be used?
Essential oils have a wide range of uses. They can be used in aroma lamps and diffusers to fragrance a room and/or for aromatherapy, added to bath water, massage oil, creams, and more. You can read a thorough overview of how essential oils are used and how they work in our blog post: What is an essential oil and how should it be used?
How much alcohol do Nurme hand sanitisers contain, and do they destroy viruses and bacteria on the skin?
100 ml of hand sanitiser contains 80 ml of alcohol, which is the maximum amount allowed by the Estonian Health Board. As a percentage, this is 80% of 100 ml. In the simplest terms, Nurme hand sanitisers contain 80% alcohol.
Because the Health Board requirements for hand sanitisers are based on weight and the permitted alcohol level is 65% by weight, the packaging states an alcohol content of 65%. Converted into millilitres, 65 g of alcohol equals 80 ml, meaning that in a 100 ml bottle, 80% of the volume is alcohol.
There are many different bacteria and viruses; some are easier to kill with alcohol than others. These differences come from the structure of the outer surface of bacteria. For example, alcohol stronger than 60% is very effective at killing E. coli bacteria, which can cause foodborne illnesses and other infections.
Some viruses have an outer layer called a membrane. Alcohol successfully kills viruses, including coronavirus, that have this membrane, but it is less effective against viruses without a membrane.
When fighting both viruses and bacteria, it is important to note that many studies confirm that a disinfectant must contain at least 60% alcohol to be effective.
Are Nurme products tested on animals?

Are Nurme products vegan?

Do Nurme products contain palm oil?
Nurme Looduskosmeetika stopped using palm oil in cosmetic products in 2017, although the oil used before then had a sustainable palm oil certificate. The only product where we have not yet managed to replace palm oil is the solid shampoo with hemp seed oil, which is popular on the Finnish market. We have tested alternatives repeatedly, but unfortunately the product properties suffered so much that we kept the recipe developed in 2012. Since Nurme has five solid shampoos in its range, customers can always choose another product. Every product has its life cycle, and one day the popularity of the solid shampoo with hemp oil will also come to an end. Nurme’s principle remains that all products in development and all new products entering the market are always palm-oil-free.
Where do Nurme essential oils come from? Does Nurme produce them? Can essential oils be used in food?
Nurme does not produce essential oils itself. It would be a very complicated and expensive process, as the raw materials, such as orange, eucalyptus, and lemongrass, do not grow in our climate. The oils come from different countries, including France, Spain, India, and Brazil, where the relevant plant or fruit is widespread and grows naturally. We list the country of origin in the product description for every essential oil we sell.
Although Nurme essential oils also have a food certificate, due to the responsibility of Nurme Looduskosmeetika OÜ as a cosmetics manufacturer, we do not provide information about using the oils in food and do not assume responsibility for such use.
We confirm that the oils are pure and do not contain parabens, prohibited preservatives, colourants, or UV filters.
We recommend reading our blog article about essential oils: https://nurmecosmetics.pl/
How do Nurme natural aluminium-free deodorants work?
Aluminium is a component in deodorants that blocks sweating, but everything we apply to our skin is also absorbed by the body, and aluminium is certainly not a metal our body loves.
Nurme products contain ingredients that neutralise sweat odour, such as essential oils and baking soda, which prevent sweat odour from spreading. Corn starch absorbs the sweat itself. Sweating is a natural and necessary bodily process.
Because Nurme deodorant does not stop sweating but instead neutralises odour and absorbs sweat, it is effective for as long as the user feels comfortable. People who sweat more may need to refresh the deodorant during the day. This means it may not be as strong as deodorants containing aluminium compounds, but in the long term it is much safer for the body. Are Nurme body scrubs also suitable for exfoliating facial skin?
The choice of scrub depends mainly on skin type. For more sensitive or couperose-prone skin, it is best to choose gentle scrubs to avoid irritating delicate skin with mechanical particles. For all other skin types, including dry, normal, combination, and oily skin, both gentle enzyme scrubs and scrubs with exfoliating particles are suitable. When exfoliating the face, always use gentler scrubs. Nurme body scrubs contain sugar or sea salt, which are slightly too harsh for facial skin. Therefore, we do not recommend using Nurme body scrubs to exfoliate the face.

Are Nurme essential oils pure and do they have an organic certificate?
All Nurme essential oils are 100% pure and do not contain parabens, prohibited preservatives, colourants, or UV filters.
Although our essential oils have a food certificate, due to the responsibility of Nurme Looduskosmeetika OÜ as a cosmetics manufacturer, we do not provide information about using the oils in food and do not assume responsibility for such use.
Nurme essential oils do not have an organic certificate.
Are essential oils produced at Nurme?
Essential oils are not produced at Nurme. Since mandarins, cloves, eucalyptus, and similar plants do not grow in Estonia, the oils are produced in the countries where each plant or fruit tree grows widely, for example lavender oil in France, lemongrass oil in India, and mandarin oil in Argentina. In our online store, the country of production is listed for every essential oil.
